Newtown Heritage Festival Rescheduled for Aug. 28-29 in Stephens City

The Newtown Heritage Festival will return to Stephens City on Friday, Aug. 28, and Saturday, Aug. 29, after weather forced organizers to cancel the festival’s original dates.

The two-day community celebration will be held at Newtown Commons, 5165 Main St., with live music, food trucks, local vendors, children’s activities, a parade, and fireworks among the attractions planned for the weekend.

Friday’s festivities are scheduled from 7 to 9:30 p.m., while Saturday will offer a full day of activities from 10 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.

The festival celebrates the history of Stephens City and the surrounding area while bringing residents and visitors together for food, entertainment, and family activities.

Stephens City has deep roots in the Shenandoah Valley, and the Newtown Heritage Festival offers an opportunity to honor that history while celebrating the community as it exists today.

Saturday will be the festival’s biggest day, with activities planned throughout the day at Newtown Commons. Visitors can expect entertainment, shopping opportunities with local vendors, food and other community activities.

A parade is also part of the celebration, continuing a traditional feature of the festival.

The weekend will conclude Saturday evening with a fireworks show sponsored by the Hollis Family Foundation.

Live music will be featured on both days. Friday’s music is sponsored by Capon Valley Bank, while Beverly Shoemaker is sponsoring Saturday’s music.

The rescheduled festival is being made possible with support from a long list of local businesses, organizations, and individuals.

The rescheduling gives festivalgoers another opportunity to take part after weather disrupted the original plans. With events stretching across Friday evening and most of Saturday, organizers have kept the festival’s mix of entertainment and community activities intact.

For families, the children’s activities offer something for younger visitors while adults can browse vendors, enjoy food and listen to live music. The combination of those activities with the parade and evening fireworks has made the festival a community gathering centered on both Stephens City’s heritage and its present-day community.

The celebration begins at 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 28, and continues until 9:30 p.m. Activities resume at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 29, and continue through 9:30 p.m.

All events will be centered at Newtown Commons, 5165 Main St., Stephens City.
