Nighttime lane closures, traffic stoppages on I-66 in Centreville area continue through August 10

FAIRFAX – Continued work installing bridge beams at Bull Run Drive in Centreville will require an extended closure and detour of I-66 East at Route 234 Business (Sudley Road) Friday night, along with lane closures and stoppages of up to 30 minutes on I-66 other nights this week. Drivers on I-66 in both directions should plan for delays in western Fairfax and eastern Prince William counties during overnight hours.

On Friday night, August 9, I-66 East will be closed at Route 234 Business (Sudley Road) between midnight and 7 a.m. Eastbound traffic will be detoured to Route 234 Business (Sudley Road) northbound, make a right at the traffic signal onto Route 29 North, then follow signs to I-66 East in Centreville.

These closures are needed for crews to lift and install beams for the new Bull Run Drive bridge over I-66 that is part of the Transform 66 Outside the Beltway Project.

Details include:

Tuesday, August 6: I-66 between Route 234 Business (Sudley Road) and Compton Road
• Three left lanes will be closed on I-66 East between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. for crews to move cranes into position.
• Three left lanes will be closed on I-66 West between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. for crews to move cranes into position.

Wednesday, August 7, and Thursday, August 8: I-66 between Route 234 Business (Sudley Road) and Compton Road
• Three right lanes on I-66 East will be closed between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m.
• Two left lanes on I-66 West will be closed between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m.
• Periodic stoppages of up to 30 minutes on I-66 East from Sudley Road to east of Bull Run Drive to lift bridge girders into place between midnight and 4 a.m.

Friday, August 9: I-66 between Route 234 East (Sudley Road) and Compton Road
• Full closure of I-66 East at Route 234 Business (Sudley Road) from midnight to 7 a.m.
• Traffic will be detoured to Route 234 Business North, turn right at the traffic signal on to Route 29 North, then follow signs to I-66 East
• Two left lanes on I-66 West will be closed between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m.

Saturday, August 10: I-66 between Route 234 Business (Sudley Road) and Compton Road
• Three right lanes on I-66 East will be closed between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m.
• Two left lanes on I-66 West will be closed between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m.
• Periodic stoppages of up to 30 minutes on I-66 East from Sudley Road to east of Bull Run Drive to lift bridge girders into place between midnight and 4 a.m.

All work is weather dependent and will be rescheduled if inclement conditions occur.
