Jasper Ridge: Documenting a 13,000-Year-Old Archeological Site Near Front Royal

Saturday, November 18th from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM

In person. Join us for an interactive presentation by retired, Senior Archeologist. Mr. Mike Johnson and MD, Lithic Technician Mr. Robert Richards Jr. on Jasper Ridge, an archeological dig located in Warren County, VA. Jasper Ridge is a newly discovered part of the Flint Run & Thunderbird complex. Dr. Gardner and students found significant evidence of late and early post-Ice Age (13,000-9,000 year-old) prehistoric hotspots, located there mainly because of large jasper stone outcroppings that exist in Warren County. The jasper was especially desirable for making prehistoric stone tools and blades. Residents are encouraged to attend and bring with them any stone artifacts they have found in Warren County. Following the presentation, stone artifacts will receive an analysis by an Archeologist. Prehistoric artifacts from the site will be available for public viewing at the event.
