WINCHESTER – Officers with the Winchester Police Department were busy Saturday evening, following a shooting incident in the 300 block of National Avenue.

According to a Sunday press release from Crime Prevention Specialist Jennifer Hall, a call came in on Feb. 18 at approximately 9:42 p.m., for a report of shots fired.

Responding officers arrived on scene to find a number of people in the area.  Upon securing the crime scene and speaking with witnesses, the statement said, officers determined that a 26-year-old man had suffered a gunshot wound to the leg.

The victim was treated at the scene by Winchester Fire and Rescue personnel, but declined transportation to the hospital, according to Hall.

She said investigators with the Winchester Police Department believe this was not a random act of violence, and the public is in no danger.

Hall said the investigation is ongoing and anyone with additional information is encouraged to call the Winchester Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division at (540) 545-4704, or Crime Solvers at (540) 665‑TIPS (8477).
