September Pet of the Month: Donations for Homegirl’s surgery

Published

on

Meet Homegirl! This lovable pup has been selected to be the Warren County sponsored September Pet of the Month. This month we are doing things a little different. Homegirl is in need of a pretty big surgery (full mastectomy). We are hoping to raise $2,000 for the surgery. She will be spayed after the surgery as well. Once she is healed, she will be ready to be adopted to her perfect, new forever home.

As you can see in the video, she is so very friendly and loving. She is a 10-year-old Jack Russell Terrier who still loves to run and play ball. As I was setting up the camera, she kept bringing the ball over to me to throw!

Betty Showers, of Fussell Florist in Front Royal, is our featured business partner this month! Please be sure to visit Betty’s shop on Commerce Avenue next time you are in need of some fresh, beautiful flowers to brighten up your home or to send to that special someone!

How to make a donation to Homegirl’s surgery fund:

  1. Visit HumaneSocietyWarrenCounty.com. Click on the DONATE button. Be sure to include in the notes for the donation “Homegirl’s Surgery” or “Olive’s Fund.”
  2. Visit the Facebook Page for the Humane Society of Warren County. Be sure to include in the notes for the donation “Homegirl’s Surgery” or “Olive’s Fund.”
  3. Or stop by the Humane Society during business hours to write a check or donate with your credit card.

WomanGathering with Debbie Copeland

Published

on

Debra A. Copeland is a writer, grandmother, Reiki healer and spiritual activist who, after 25 years as a court reporter and owner/operator of a small but demanding business, finally has ample hours to write, a life change which fills her with joy! She and her husband live in a small house being overtaken by a large body of unfinished work; she looks forward to completing each project while also spending quality time with loved ones (especially her grandchildren), and (out of concern for the future of all children) working for human and environmental justice and transformation.

The topic discussed in this Live interview:

Debbie will be discussing the project she is currently working on, a collection of essays entitled: Getting Back to the Garden: An Assertion of Woodstock as a New Sermon on the Mount & Other Wild Notions. The book looks at American events, issues and personalities from a unique perspective. In May, excerpts of the book were published at Rebelle Society magazine.

  • Coming Soon: She is in the process of rebuilding her website and Facebook page. Debbie hopes to have it all up and running within the next couple of months.
  • Available on Amazon: The Edification of Sissy Dare by Debbie Copeland (2012)

WomanGatherings are informational and inspirational evenings intended to nurture the womanspirit in each of us. Held the third Thursday of most months at Open House: Meet in the Middle (210 E Main Street, FR) from 5:30pm-7pm. This is a FREE event! Join us next time.

New mural officially added to Appalachian Mural Trail Project

Published

on

As many of you may have seen, we have a beautiful new mural on the wall next to Mountain Trails on Main Street. This mural, commissioned by Mountain Trails owner Garry Green, has now been officially added to the Appalachian Mural Trail Project! The project was started in 2016 and is meant to depict Appalachian mountain culture, life, flora, fauna, and to beautify rural communities downtown’s, explained Garry Green in a prior interview.

What a fun way to attract new hikers to stop by our downtown Main Street and enjoy our special Town of Front Royal! The mural was painted by our very own Jacqui Ris.

In the works is the “selfie” part of the Mural Program. This will enable visitors to take a selfie of themselves in front of the mural, submit their photo and release form, and get a free mural program t-shirt – all of this for only a smile!

This mural, while not only being part of the Appalachian Mural Trail program, will also be included as part of our Community Development Block Grant that is assisting with the revitalization of our Main Street. According to Felicia Hart, Director of CD and Tourism, more murals are already in the works.
