Skyline Hawks Unite for a Dual Fundraiser Golf Tournament Supporting Local Athletes

Published

on

The Skyline Hawks Football and Baseball teams are teaming up for a unique fundraiser that powerfully connects sports and the community. On Saturday, September 21st, nearly 100 student-athletes will benefit from this joint effort at the Shenandoah Valley Golf Club, where a fun-filled day of golf will help raise vital funds for both programs.

“This event is particularly close to my heart,” says Clare Schmitt, a dedicated team mom for Skyline Baseball. “My son, Carl Jr., is playing football for the first time as a veteran baseball player, so this fundraiser is a double win for us as a family. But more importantly, it’s about helping these kids get the best possible experience on and off the field.”

Participants can register for $100, which includes a full round of golf, lunch, and three drink tickets. All funds raised will go directly to the two teams, covering expenses like practice gear, game-day uniforms, and training equipment and providing opportunities to enhance players’ experience.

Supporting the Skyline Hawks

Coach Gilbert, the head of Skyline Football, underscores the importance of this fundraiser. “Running a successful program costs between $16,000 and $18,000 annually. From providing essential equipment like jerseys and gear to offering pregame meals and replacing key training tools, every dollar helps us give these boys the best opportunities possible,” he explains.

Coach Settle, who leads the Skyline Baseball team, echoes the sentiment. “This past year, we invested significantly in new equipment, including a $6,200 Turtle training tool. The daily wear and tear on our gear, plus the costs of field maintenance, make fundraisers like this vital for keeping our program strong.”

The event has garnered significant local support, with sponsors like The Logan Maiatico Foundation, Cline Construction, American Precision Electronics, and Dale and Donna Settle stepping up to help the Hawks soar. These sponsors and numerous others have demonstrated their commitment to supporting local youth sports.

A Community Effort

The golf tournament would not be possible without the hard work and dedication of many in the community. “I can’t thank our parent community enough,” says Schmitt. “This fundraiser would not have been possible without the tireless efforts of our parents, and I want to give a special shoutout to Emily Boyd, Kelly Kenney, and Heather Lupton, who have been true partners in putting on this event. It’s been a team effort—our parents show up daily to support these kids and give them the best experience possible.”

The community’s support does not stop with the event organizers. The young athletes will send handwritten thank-you notes to all sponsors, a gesture Schmitt describes as a way to show gratitude for their continued generosity.

Join the Fun and Make a Difference

For Skyline sports supporters and community members, this golf tournament is more than just a game; it’s a chance to rally behind local student-athletes. “Every bit of money raised goes back to the teams,” says Schmitt. “It’s incredible to see how much the community cares about these kids, and this is a way for all of us to help give them experiences they’ll remember forever.”

Whether you’re a golf enthusiast or wish to contribute to the future of Skyline sports, the event promises a day filled with camaraderie, fun, and meaningful support for local youth.
