Town of Front Royal Announces 2025–2026 Citizens Academy

Published

on

The Town of Front Royal is excited to announce the launch of the 2025–2026 Citizens Academy, an initiative designed to strengthen citizen engagement and provide participants with a deeper understanding of the daily operations of our local government. As the Town Council often emphasizes, active involvement from residents is the backbone of a thriving community. This program offers an excellent opportunity for citizens to become more informed, connected, and engaged with their government.

The Citizens Academy will begin on Wednesday, October 8, 2025, and run through May 25, 2026, culminating in a graduation ceremony at the Town Council Meeting. The program will consist of eight sessions, held on the third Wednesday of each month (except the first session). Each meeting will take place at a different Town facility and will be led by subject matter experts, often with hands-on experiences that highlight the services provided to the community.

Enrollment is limited to 12 participants, ages 18 and older. Candidates must reside in the Town of Front Royal or own a business within Town limits, with priority given to residents. To successfully graduate, participants are encouraged to attend all sessions, with a maximum of two absences permitted.

The Citizens Academy will include presentations and interactive experiences with the following departments and offices (subject to change):

  • Local Government
  • Public Safety (Front Royal Police Department)
  • Water Works (Water Treatment Plant)
  • Planning & Zoning
  • Community Development and Tourism
  • Waste Water Treatment Plant
  • Energy Services
  • Public Works

The final instructional session will be held on April 15, 2026, followed by a graduation reception and recognition at the Town Council Meeting on May 25, 2026.

Applications for the Citizens Academy are now open. For more information or to apply, please visit frontroyalva.com.
