VDOT to Lift Lane Closures for July Fourth Holiday Travel

Published

on

VDOT will suspend many highway work zones and lift temporary lane closures on interstates and major roads from noon Thursday, July 2, through noon Monday, July 6, to help holiday traffic move during July Fourth travel.

Drivers may still see some long-term work zones in place. VDOT encourages travelers to check 511 Virginia before leaving for traffic, incidents, construction, weather, and camera views.

Travelers heading to Virginia Beach or the Outer Banks from the Peninsula are encouraged to use I-664 and the Monitor-Merrimac Memorial Bridge-Tunnel as an alternate route during Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel construction.

VDOT also reminds drivers to buckle up, put phones down, plan for a sober ride, watch for pedestrians and cyclists, and obey Virginia’s Move Over law.
