Virginia State Police Seize Guns, Nearly $200,000 in Cash During Weekly Crime Operations

Virginia State Police recovered eight firearms, nearly $200,000 in cash, and quantities of cocaine, marijuana, and methamphetamine during crime suppression operations conducted across the Commonwealth from Aug. 26 through Sept. 1.

The enforcement efforts involved Virginia State Police working with federal and local law enforcement agencies on criminal investigations and drug interdictions.

According to State Police, eight firearms with an estimated value of $4,000 were recovered as part of criminal drug investigations during the seven-day reporting period.

Authorities also seized $198,304 in U.S. currency.

Drug seizures during the week included approximately 2.3 pounds of cocaine, 49.2 pounds of marijuana and 3 ounces of methamphetamine.

State Police placed the estimated denied revenue from seized drugs at $367,720.

The drug totals include seizures involving the Virginia State Police, State Police task forces, federal task forces, and cases in which the State Police assisted other agencies.

The weekly figures reflect enforcement activity across Virginia rather than a single investigation or location. State Police did not provide a breakdown identifying where individual seizures occurred, how many investigations contributed to the totals, or how many people were arrested or charged.

No information about specific criminal charges or defendants was included in the weekly report.

State Police said the continuing operations are aimed at improving public safety, enforcing Virginia laws and supporting the governor’s initiatives targeting violent crime.

The agency also pointed to cooperation among local, state and federal law enforcement as an important part of efforts to disrupt criminal organizations and remove illegal drugs and firearms from communities.
