Virginia Transportation Board Schedules Fall Meetings, Including Stops in Weyers Cave and Culpeper

Virginia residents will have several opportunities this fall to weigh in on highway, rail, and public transportation priorities as the Commonwealth Transportation Board holds nine public meetings statewide.

The meetings will run from Sept. 25 through Nov. 12, with sessions planned in each of Virginia’s nine transportation districts. For residents of the Shenandoah Valley and nearby communities, meetings are scheduled for Oct. 22 in Weyers Cave and Nov. 10 in Culpeper.

Each meeting will begin at 2 p.m. and include remarks from transportation officials, followed by a town hall-style session where residents can ask questions, discuss concerns, and offer ideas about Virginia’s transportation network.

Representatives from the Office of Intermodal Planning and Investment, the Virginia Department of Transportation, and the Virginia Department of Rail and Public Transportation are expected to participate.

The meetings are intended to give the public a chance to learn more about transportation priorities and programs while providing direct feedback to the state agencies responsible for roads, public transit and rail.

The Staunton District meeting will be held Thursday, Oct. 22, at Blue Ridge Community College’s Plecker Center for Continuing Education, One College Lane in Weyers Cave.

That meeting may be of particular interest to residents throughout the Shenandoah Valley who want to comment on road projects, transportation needs and other issues affecting the Staunton District.

The Culpeper District meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 10, at the VDOT Culpeper District Auditorium, 1601 Orange Road in Culpeper.

The statewide series begins Friday, Sept. 25, with the Lynchburg District meeting at the Lynchburg Business Alliance, 300 Lucado Place in Lynchburg.

The Richmond District meeting follows Wednesday, Sept. 30, at the VDOT Richmond District Hawthorne Auditorium, 2430 Pine Forest Drive in Colonial Heights.

Northern Virginia’s meeting will be held Thursday, Oct. 8, in the Potomac Conference Room at the VDOT Northern Virginia District office, 4975 Alliance Drive in Fairfax.

The Salem District meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 20, at the Salem Civic Center, 1001 Roanoke Boulevard in Salem.

Following the Oct. 22 meeting in Weyers Cave, the board will hold the Hampton Roads District session on Tuesday, Oct. 27, at the VDOT Hampton Roads District Auditorium, 7511 Burbage Drive in Suffolk.

The Bristol District meeting will be Thursday, Nov. 5, at the Southwest Virginia Higher Education Center, Room 240, One Partnership Circle in Abingdon.

After the Nov. 10 Culpeper meeting, the fall schedule concludes Thursday, Nov. 12, with the Fredericksburg District meeting at the VDOT Fredericksburg District Auditorium, 86 Deacon Road in Fredericksburg.

Residents do not have to attend a meeting in person to share their views.

The Commonwealth Transportation Board establishes transportation policy and oversees transportation investments in Virginia. The fall meetings provide residents with an opportunity to speak directly with officials involved in planning and managing the state’s transportation system.

The meetings also allow state officials to hear concerns that may differ from one region to another, from highway needs in rural communities to transit and rail issues in more populated areas.
