Walt Mabe Prioritizes Road Repairs and Water Supply in Front Royal Election Bid

Walt Mabe, a Front Royal Town Council candidate, recently shared his views on several key issues affecting the community as he campaigns for the upcoming November 5 election. Mabe, who brings years of leadership experience in project management, discussed his vision for the town, emphasizing the importance of practical solutions and careful planning.

One of the primary concerns Mabe addressed is the state of Front Royal’s roads. Many residents have expressed frustration over roadwork being undone shortly after the completion of infrastructure repairs. Mabe believes this is an issue of poor planning and coordination. He explained that road repairs could be done efficiently without unnecessary delays or costs with better communication between contractors and town officials.

Mabe also highlighted the need to secure a new water source for the town, noting that while studies are necessary to identify the best option, swift action must follow once the information is available. He mentioned various possibilities, such as McKay Springs or other alternatives. Still, he stressed the importance of deciding on the best course of action to ensure the town’s long-term water needs are met.

Regarding growth, Mabe acknowledged concerns from residents who fear Front Royal could become overdeveloped, similar to Fairfax or Loudoun counties. He believes managing growth carefully is essential to preserving the town’s character. Mabe said each new project should be evaluated based on its impact, and residents’ voices should play a crucial role in shaping these decisions.

Another pressing issue is the rising tipping fees, which have led to increased garbage collection costs. Mabe explained that while these costs are rising due to various factors—such as increased labor, transportation expenses, and tipping fees—he believes that maintaining the town’s garbage collection services is a priority. For many residents, the convenience of regular trash pickup is a valuable service the Town provides. Mabe sees it as something that must be protected even as costs fluctuate.

Mabe also spoke about improving the relationship between the Town and Warren County. He believes cooperation between the two governments is critical for shared services like tourism and the Economic Development Authority (EDA). He urged both sides to move past previous disputes and find common ground, emphasizing that working together can benefit everyone in the community.

Beyond infrastructure and governance, Mabe is deeply passionate about addressing social issues, particularly homelessness and food insecurity. He has been involved in efforts to assist those in need and stressed the importance of continuing these initiatives. Mabe believes caring for the Town’s most vulnerable residents should remain a priority, and he hopes to advocate for more solutions to help those facing hardship.

While Mabe openly admits that he doesn’t enjoy politics, he is driven by a desire to serve the community. As an independent candidate, he values his ability to listen to all sides and make decisions based on the people’s best interests. He draws on his extensive background in managing teams and projects to bring a practical, results-oriented approach to town governance.

With Election Day on November 5, Mabe is focused on hearing from residents and ensuring their concerns are addressed. Whether through email or phone calls, he is committed to being accessible and responsive, believing that direct communication is key to serving effectively on the council.
