White House Highlights Crime, Economy, Foreign Policy in Weekly Briefing

The White House this week highlighted a series of administration initiatives and policy announcements, pointing to reductions in violent crime, new private-sector investments, diplomatic meetings with foreign leaders, and the release of declassified intelligence related to election security.

The updates were included in the administration’s weekly briefing, which summarized activities from July 28 through July 31.

One of the week’s most visible events was a Cabinet meeting held at Camp David on July 31. According to the White House, it was the first Cabinet meeting at the presidential retreat to be televised. During the meeting, administration officials outlined progress on several priorities, including crime reduction, economic policies, government spending oversight, and military recruitment.

The administration said preliminary national crime statistics show homicides have declined 18% compared with the previous year. It also cited decreases in carjackings, robberies and motor vehicle thefts, describing the current homicide rate as the lowest recorded in 126 years. The figures have not yet been independently analyzed by all national crime reporting agencies.

Vice President J.D. Vance told Cabinet members that the administration’s Fraud Task Force has identified approximately $230 billion in fraudulent government payments and prevented $56 billion in payments. The White House said additional enforcement actions are underway.

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent reported that real wages for lower-income workers have increased by about $1,000, while administration officials also highlighted savings through the TrumpRx prescription drug program, which they said has reduced medication costs by roughly $700 million. Officials added that more than seven million children have enrolled in newly established Trump Accounts.

On the international front, President Donald Trump met separately at the White House on July 28 with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

According to the administration, discussions with Netanyahu focused on Middle East security and regional stability, while talks with Zelenskyy centered on Patriot missile interceptor licenses and efforts to advance negotiations to end Russia’s war against Ukraine. Zelenskyy later described the meeting as productive.

The White House also announced the release of declassified intelligence concerning election security. Administration officials said the documents indicate that China and affiliated actors obtained as many as 220 million American voter registration records, including some non-public information previously identified by U.S. intelligence agencies.

According to the administration, the intelligence assessment suggests the data could potentially be used to interfere with voter registration systems or support foreign influence campaigns. The White House said the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, the National Security Agency, the Central Intelligence Agency, and the Department of Homeland Security participated in reviewing the declassified material.

Administration officials argued that the information reinforces support for federal election security legislation, including the proposed SAVE America Act, which would require proof of citizenship to register to vote. The proposal remains the subject of ongoing political debate.

The administration also announced several economic development initiatives during the week. Philip Morris International pledged a $600 million investment in U.S. operations, while Electra announced plans for an $850 million investment. President Trump also visited a General Motors manufacturing facility in Michigan to promote domestic manufacturing.

Additional announcements included a presidential directive invoking Defense Production Act authority to strengthen domestic supplies of critical minerals used in national defense and advanced manufacturing.

The White House also highlighted humanitarian efforts led by First Lady Melania Trump, saying she helped facilitate another reunion of families separated by the war between Russia and Ukraine.

The weekly briefing reflects the administration’s effort to emphasize progress on public safety, economic policy, government efficiency, manufacturing investment, and foreign affairs as it continues advancing its policy agenda.
