Wildcats earn back-to-back wins in front of home crowd

The WCHS Varsity Volleyball team earned their first win in an outstanding performance against Central High School Tuesday night, beating the Falcons 3-1. The Wildcats began with a slow start, losing their first set 18-25. WCHS fired back in the next set, winning it 25-22. From then on, it was easy rolling as the Wildcats won the next two sets back-to-back with the final scores 25-22 and a blowout 25-12.
Brianna Hogan totaled a team-leading and season-high 22 kills, along with 11 digs and 3 aces. Freshman Atori Lane finished the game with 11 kills and 8 digs, while senior Shannon Vernick totaled 22 digs and 3 aces. Rounding out the Wildcats impressive performance, junior Makayla Grant had 2 kills along with 3 solo blocks.
Coach Detweiler expressed, “I’m happy to come away with out first win. We have been making progress all year, and playing tough competition at the beginning of the season has only helped us improve our mindset. The goal is to continue to improve each game for the rest of the season and play our best when it counts the most.”
The Wildcats added their second consecutive win of the season on Thursday against the Brentsville Tigers, 25-19, 25-21, 25-17. Senior Shannon Vernick stated, “our first win against Central on Tuesday boosted our confidence for this match against Brentsville, so we were able to relax, play hard, and focus on having fun tonight.”
