MIDDLETOWN – With the retirement of Dr. Cheryl Thompson-Stacy as president of Lord Fairfax Community College six months away, the LFCC College Board and the Virginia Community College System is about to embark on a nationwide search for her successor.

The college is seeking the community’s input regarding what its priorities should be for the next three to five years.  A brief, online survey can be found at www.lfcc.edu/search.  Paper copies are available at the college’s locations in Middletown, Warrenton, Luray, and Vint Hill.

The survey will be available through August 21, 2017.  Responses are anonymous and will become part of the material considered by the LFCC Board in the search process, according to Sally Voth, Public Relations Specialist for LFCC.

The educational and economic impact of LFCC is significant, Voth said in a media release.  “With a service region that includes the City of Winchester and the counties of Clarke, Fauquier, Frederick, Page, Rappahannock, Shenandoah, and Warren, LFCC offers residents the opportunity to  earn an associate degree or certificate, transfer to a four-year college or university, train for the workforce, earn an industry credential, switch careers, or continue lifelong learning.”

LFCC President Dr. Cheryl Thompson-Stacy’s retirement will take effect Feb. 1, 2018; she has served as president since January 2009.

Dr. C is the fourth person – and second woman – to serve as the president of LFCC, which opened in 1970. Prior to her post at LFCC, she was Eastern Shore Community College’s first female president. She has also served as a vice president at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College, and as a business dean at both Cuyahoga Community College in Cleveland, and at Jefferson Community College in Steubenville, Ohio.

Dr. Thompson-Stacy earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in business administration from Kent State University, and her doctorate in educational leadership from the University of Sarasota.
