James E. Burke, 86, of Bentonville, Virginia, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, October 19, 2024, at Hidden Springs Senior Living in Bentonville.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, October 24, at 2:00 p.m. at Maddox Funeral Home with Sammy Campbell officiating. The interment will be private in Bentonville Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mr. Burke was born June 4, 1938, at home in Warren County, son of the late Eric Allen and Bessie Elizabeth Corbin Burke.

Mr. Burke graduated from Warren County High School, Class of 1956. After many dedicated years as a produce manager, he retired from Safeway and owned and operated his own business, Burke’s Repair Shop in Bentonville.

Surviving is his devoted and loving wife of 65 years, Peggy R. Burke; one daughter, Tammy Slawson and husband Glenn of Mystic, Connecticut; one brother, William Burke of Vienna; one sister, Edna Funk of Front Royal; one grandson, Edward Feeney and wife Colleen of North Franklin, Connecticut; one granddaughter, Lindsey Emma-Chavez and husband Rafael of Uncasville, Connecticut; and one great-granddaughter, Emmet Feeney of North Franklin, Connecticut.

Mr. Burke was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Nellie Powell.

Pallbearers will be family and friends.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, October 24, from 1-2 p.m. at the funeral home.
