Five Killed, Dozens Hurt in Multi-Vehicle Crash on I-95 in Stafford County
Five people were killed, and dozens more were injured early this morning in a multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 95 southbound in Stafford County, according to Virginia State Police.
The crash happened at about 2:35 a.m. near the 146-mile marker. State police said traffic was slowing for an upcoming work zone when a bus failed to slow down and struck a Chevrolet Suburban. The force of the crash pushed the Suburban into an Acura SUV and other vehicles. The bus also struck additional vehicles, police said.

The bus was operated by E&P Travel and was traveling from New York City to Charlotte, North Carolina. State police said the bus was carrying about 34 people at the time of the crash.
Five people died in the crash. Four of the victims were inside the Acura, which caught fire after the collisions. They were identified by police as a 45-year-old man, a 44-year-old woman, a 13-year-old girl, and a 7-year-old boy, all from Greenfield, Massachusetts.
The fifth person killed was a 25-year-old woman from Worcester, Massachusetts. Police said she was inside the Chevrolet Suburban that was struck by the bus.
About 44 patients were taken to area hospitals after the crash. Three people had critical injuries, according to state police.
The bus driver, identified as Jing S. Dong, 48, of Staten Island, New York, was also injured in the crash. Charges are pending.

Virginia State Police said the crash remains under investigation. Investigators are also looking into the bus driver’s actions before the crash.
The wreck happened along a busy stretch of I-95, one of the main travel routes through Virginia. Early reports said traffic on the southbound lanes was slowing due to a work zone ahead. Work zones can create sudden backups, especially during overnight hours when drivers may not expect heavy traffic.
State police have not yet released the names of the five people who died. More information is expected as investigators continue their work and notify family members.
Drivers in the area were urged to use caution as police and emergency crews responded to the scene.
