Swing into November: Live Music and Dancing at Shenandoah University
Winchester will be swinging into the fall season on Saturday, November 1, with a high-energy night of dancing and live music at Shenandoah University. Hosted inside the elegant Ferrari Room at the Brandt Student Center, the event invites dancers of all levels—and music lovers alike—for a lively evening of swing, socializing, and toe-tapping tunes.
Organized by Swing Dance Front Royal and Winchester Swing Dance, the evening kicks off at 6:30 p.m. with a beginner-friendly swing dance lesson. No partner or prior experience is needed. Organizers emphasize that all are welcome—anyone can lead or follow—and the lesson is designed to help newcomers feel comfortable and ready to enjoy the dance floor.
The live band will take the stage for three sets of music throughout the night, giving attendees plenty of chances to show off their moves or just sit back and enjoy the sounds. Between sets, a DJ will keep the energy flowing with classic swing tracks during short breaks.
The full evening schedule is as follows:
- 6:30 – 7:00 p.m.: Beginner swing dance lesson
- 7:00 – 7:45 p.m.: First band set
- 7:45 – 8:00 p.m.: DJ music break
- 8:00 – 8:45 p.m.: Second band set
- 8:45 – 9:00 p.m.: DJ music break
- 9:00 – 9:30 p.m.: Final band set
The event is open to adults ages 18 and older, and organizers encourage everyone to participate—whether you’re stepping out for your very first swing or you’re a seasoned dancer.
Entry is $20 for the general public, while Shenandoah University students and staff get in free with a school ID. Students from other institutions pay a discounted $15 with student ID at the door. Tickets can be purchased at the door with cash or Venmo, and there will be an ATM available in the student center. Guests paying in advance via Venmo (handle: @swingdancefrontroyal) will check in at the door via a registration spreadsheet.
While dressing up is encouraged, comfort is key. Organizers recommend sneakers, flats, or dance shoes—whatever helps you move with ease on the dance floor. Friendly etiquette is a must, and seating will be available for anyone who prefers to relax and enjoy the music from the sidelines.
Parking is free onsite, making it easy to join the fun. Whether you’re there to dance, watch, or simply soak up the vibrant atmosphere, this promises to be an unforgettable night of community and rhythm.
