Warren County Officials Urge Safe, Legal Fireworks Use During July Fourth Holiday

Published

on

Warren County public safety officials are reminding residents to celebrate this Independence Day responsibly and follow Virginia fireworks laws during the holiday weekend.

In a joint statement released Tuesday, Warren County Fire and Rescue, the Warren County Sheriff’s Office, and the Front Royal Police Department said they respond each year to numerous complaints, fires, injuries, and safety concerns related to illegal fireworks.

Officials emphasized that only certain consumer fireworks approved by the Virginia State Fire Marshal’s Office are legal in Virginia. Approved fireworks generally remain on or near the ground and include items such as sparklers, fountains, and novelty devices.

Fireworks that explode or travel into the air are prohibited unless specifically authorized by permit.

Officials warned that possession or use of illegal fireworks could result in citations or criminal charges.

Residents are also encouraged to use caution even with legal fireworks, avoiding use near homes, vehicles, dry grass, or large crowds.

Children should always be supervised, and malfunctioning fireworks should never be relit, officials said.

Public safety agencies also asked residents to be considerate of neighbors, veterans, pets, and individuals with sensory sensitivities who may be affected by excessive or late-night fireworks.

Officials encouraged residents to attend professional fireworks displays whenever possible, calling them a safer alternative that helps reduce injuries and property damage.

Additional information about legal fireworks in Virginia is available through the Virginia Department of Fire Programs or Warren County Fire and Rescue.
