Chris Davis Returns to Lead Flames Homeschool Basketball

Published

Chris Davis, the founder of Flames Homeschool Sports, has returned to coach the high school boys’ basketball team, bringing his 33 years of coaching experience back to the court. The Flames, based in Warren County, is one of Virginia’s longest-running homeschool sports organizations and offers a wide range of sports and activities for homeschooled children in a Christ-centered environment.

Since its founding in 1992, Flames Homeschool Sports has grown from a single soccer team to a thriving program offering basketball, archery, cross country, theater, and more. Davis, whose leadership helped shape the Flames into what they are today, is excited to reconnect with local families and continue the mission of providing a positive, faith-filled space for student-athletes.

“It feels great to be back,” Davis said. “I’m looking forward to guiding the boys’ team and seeing all our athletes work hard and grow both on and off the court.”

Building a Legacy of Faith and Sportsmanship

The Flames Homeschool Sports organization is dedicated to fostering both athletic excellence and spiritual growth. Coaches, including Davis, emphasize patience, encouragement, and dedication, creating an environment where kids can learn, compete, and thrive.

The Flames welcome homeschoolers of all experience levels, offering various programs to suit different interests. In addition to sports, the organization hosts community-building activities like skating parties, Homecoming dances, and an annual awards ceremony.

Davis’s Return: A Coach with Vision

Davis’s return to the Flames marks a homecoming for the coach who first organized a sports call-out meeting for homeschool families in 1992. From those humble beginnings, Davis expanded the Flames to include multiple sports and activities, even leading the girls’ basketball team to a state championship in 2011.

Beyond his local contributions, Davis founded Homeschool SportsNet (HSPN), a national nonprofit promoting homeschool sports teams nationwide. Through HSPN, he also developed East Coast Nationals, a premier tournament for homeschool athletes that celebrates its 30th anniversary next year.

This season, Davis is eager to lead the boys’ team back to the state tournament, continuing the tradition of excellence that has made the Flames a cornerstone of the homeschool community.

Flames: A Place for Everyone

Flames Homeschool Sports welcomes families from Warren County and beyond, including West Virginia. Whether a child is new to sports or experienced, the Flames provide opportunities for all to grow in skill, character, and faith.
