David James “Dave” Lyons (1972 – 2026)

David “Dave” Lyons passed away peacefully at his home in Clarksville, Tennessee, on September 4, 2026, in the company of his mother and four siblings after a long and difficult battle with colon cancer. He was born in Denver, Colorado, on April 26, 1972, and moved with his family to Maine in 1977, where he spent most of his growing-up years in Portland. He attended parochial school at St. Patrick’s, then joined his siblings at the Trivium School in Lancaster, Massachusetts, for high school.

In 1995, he joined the United States Air Force and was stationed primarily at Langley Air Force Base in Virginia. He was very proud of his military service and became an expert in F-15 avionics, spending most of his four years of military service in the desert of Saudi Arabia and at Langley. After the Air Force, he built a career in enterprise data storage. He was a master of his trade and highly respected by his colleagues, both for his technical abilities and his warm, endearing personality. He was willing and able to take on the most difficult tasks and helped his teams and his customers through countless late-night and weekend data migration and disaster recovery situations.

Dave was known for his kindness, his ready smile or laugh, and his love for anything fast (including fighter planes and quality cars). But most of all, he will be remembered for his amazing generosity. He would always jump at the chance to give up anything he had to someone who needed it more than he did. During his illness, he was remarkably patient and kept a smile on his face despite his suffering. Through it all, he never complained and always thought of others first rather than himself.

He was preceded in death by his father, John E. Lyons. He is survived by his son, Alexander Burke Lyons; his mother, Mary K. Lyons; sisters Monica (Paul) Moeller and Kathleen (John III) Jackson; and brothers Joe (Bevlin) Lyons and Timothy Lyons. He also left behind 21 nieces and nephews, as well as numerous grand-nieces and grand-nephews.

Visitation and a Rosary will be held at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Front Royal, Virginia, on Sunday, September 13, from 7:00 to 8:00 pm.

The funeral will be held at St. John the Baptist on Monday, September 14 at 10:00 am. Burial will follow at 1: 00 p.m. at the Culpeper National Cemetery Annex at 501 East Chandler Street, Culpeper, VA 22701.
