Four ways to ease your pet’s anxiety during the holidays

Published

on

The holiday season is the perfect time of year to reunite with family and friends. However, just because we enjoy this festive period doesn’t mean our four-legged companions feel the same. In fact, many pets become anxious and agitated by all the noise and restlessness that accompany Christmas and New Year’s celebrations. Here are four valuable tips to help keep your pet’s anxiety at bay during the holidays:

1. Stick to your pet’s routine as much as possible. Feed your cat or dog at regular hours and avoid giving them scraps from the table that could compromise their health. Furthermore, make sure your pet gets plenty of exercise as usual.

2. Keep your pet in a quiet area. Provide a quiet space away from all of the commotion where your pet can take refuge if ever it feels anxious or scared by your guests’ presence.

3. Use a naturally soothing product. There are several products available on the market that are specifically designed to help soothe your pet’s anxiety, like calming collars or
vaporizers that emit synthetic pheromones. Consult your veterinarian for the best options for your trusted companion.

4. Leave your pet with a responsible sitter. Consider leaving your anxious pet with someone responsible who won’t be attending the same holiday events as you. If nobody is available, you can leave your dog or cat with a reputable company that offers pet boarding services to ensure your loveable fur ball feels safe away from all the holiday hubbub.
