Front Royal Urges Electric Customers to Conserve Energy During Extreme Cold
The Town of Front Royal is asking residents and businesses to voluntarily conserve electricity during peak hours from Monday, January 20, through Wednesday, January 22. As temperatures are expected to drop near zero, officials are encouraging energy-saving steps to help reduce costs for the community.
The peak conservation hours are 5:00 AM to 10:00 AM and 5:00 PM to 10:00 PM. Carey Saffelle, Director of Energy Services, says, “There’s plenty of power available, and the grid is in good shape. However, lowering peak demand can help the Town save on transmission costs, ultimately keeping electricity rates low.”
Residents are urged to take simple steps such as:
- Avoiding electric space heaters.
- Lowering thermostats to 68 degrees.
- Turning off unnecessary lights and electronics.
- Delaying energy-intensive chores, like laundry, until non-peak hours.
“As a municipal electric system owned by its citizens, it is up to our residents to help keep rates affordable for everyone,” Saffelle added.
While the grid is stable, this voluntary effort allows citizens to contribute to keeping electricity costs manageable for the future.
