Jim White Brings Music, Art, and Storytelling to The Marigold June 12
An evening of music, memory, and artistic magic is coming to The Marigold Gallery on Thursday, June 12, when multi-talented artist Jim White takes the stage from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Known for his deeply personal songs and vivid storytelling, White’s live performance promises to be unlike any other. Admission is just $10, offering a rare chance to experience a nationally respected artist in an intimate setting right here in Front Royal.
The event will be held at The Marigold’s 8 Kidd Lane location, directly across from the side entrance of Vibrissa, a cozy corner in town that regularly draws local art and music lovers. For White, this visit marks another chapter in a career defined by originality and unconventional paths.
Jim White is no stranger to reinvention. Before finding his footing in music and the arts, he held a long list of working-class jobs, including dishwasher, road crew worker, and a 13-year stint as a taxi driver in New York City. That time behind the wheel fueled much of his creative output, forming the backbone of his storytelling both on the stage and on the page.
His music, often described as Southern Gothic Americana, has drawn critical praise for its haunting lyrics and eclectic sound. White’s songs have been featured in TV shows like Breaking Bad and in films such as El Camino, offering moody, emotional landscapes that mirror his visual artwork and writing.
White’s talents don’t stop with music. He’s also a noted visual artist, with exhibitions displayed in galleries and museums across the United States and Europe. His mixed-media works, much like his music, explore the complicated beauty and brokenness of the human experience.
As an author, White has made waves with his debut novel Incidental Contact, which he calls a “Magical Realism memoir.” The book draws from his time in New York City and blends real-life grit with dreamlike storytelling. It’s been praised for its originality and emotional depth.
One of White’s most widely known cultural contributions is his role in the BBC documentary Searching for the Wrong-Eyed Jesus, where he acts as narrator and guide. The film takes viewers on a surreal road trip through the rural American South and has developed a cult following for its strange, poetic depiction of Southern life and music.
The June 12 event at The Marigold is a chance to hear Jim White’s music live, but it’s more than just a concert—it’s a glimpse into the mind of a true storyteller whose career spans music, art, and literature. His performances often include spoken word, reflections from his life, and insights into his creative process.
Whether you’re already a fan or new to his work, White’s performance is expected to be both thought-provoking and deeply entertaining. Space is limited, and the unique venue setting makes this an event you’ll want to arrive early for. It’s an evening that promises to linger in memory—much like White’s songs.
