Kris Kringle Market Brings Holiday Cheer to Belle Grove

Published

on

A festive tradition returns to Middletown this November as Belle Grove Plantation hosts its annual Kris Kringle Market, transforming the historic grounds into a holiday village bursting with seasonal spirit. Taking place on Saturday, November 22, and Sunday, November 23, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day, this magical event promises handcrafted gifts, tasty food, cheerful carolers, and family fun for all ages.

Now in its popular holiday slot just before Thanksgiving, the Kris Kringle Market welcomes visitors with a wide range of attractions. More than 90 local and regional vendors will offer a variety of handmade and locally produced items — from woodwork and jewelry to candles, bath products, gourmet foods, and more.

Visitors can enjoy a wide array of activities throughout the weekend. Inside the Beverley B. Shoemaker Welcome Center (Barn), younger guests will be treated to Story Time with Kris Kringle at 11 a.m., noon, 2 p.m., and 3 p.m. on both days, followed by photos with Kris Kringle at half-past each hour. Kids can also enjoy face painting, try their hand at juggling, or take in a charming Christmas ballet performance by Dancing by His Grace, scheduled for 1 p.m. each day.

This year’s market also includes several fun surprises. Roaming carolers will fill the grounds with music, and two mischievous holiday figures will be wandering as well — Belsnickel, a grumpy gift-giver from German folklore, will appear on Saturday morning. At the same time, Krampus, known for his spooky twist on Christmas traditions, may sneak up on unsuspecting guests.

The event also offers self-guided tours of the Belle Grove Manor House, which will be open both days. While the historic home won’t be decorated for the holidays until December 5, the tours provide a rare opportunity to see the Federal-style mansion that has stood since 1797. Donations are welcome but not required.

Holiday shoppers will appreciate the Belle Grove Museum Shop, which will be stocked with exclusive gifts and seasonal items, including tour tickets and memberships, perfect for those looking to give experiences instead of things this year. The bag check area, located on the lower level of the Barn, allows guests to stash their purchases while they continue exploring the market.

And let’s not forget the food. The Kris Kringle Market serves up something for every palate. From hot pierogis and gourmet grilled cheese to sweet crepes and holiday cookies, the event features more than a dozen local food vendors, including favorites like Billy Sous, Joie de Vivre Crepes, Daily Buzz Cafe, and Wayne’s Delicious Eats. Sweet tooths will find plenty to love, too, with funnel cakes, cheesecake, fried Oreos, and fresh pastries offered throughout the grounds.

Adults looking to warm up can stop by the Belle Grove Beer & Wine Tent to sample seasonal beverages like German-style mulled wine (gluhwein) and holiday ales from local breweries.

For those eager to craft their own decorations, fresh wreath-making classes will also be held both days, although both sessions are currently sold out. Guests may still join a waiting list through Belle Grove’s website.

Early birds who arrive on Saturday between 10 a.m. and noon will be asked to pay a $2 admission fee per adult (children 12 and under are free). At all other times, entry is completely free to the public.

The Kris Kringle Market is held at 336 Belle Grove Road in Middletown, VA, and organized by Belle Grove Plantation, a non-profit historic site and museum. For full event details, directions, and vendor listings, visit www.bellegrove.org.

Whether you’re looking to get a head start on holiday shopping, enjoy a warm drink while listening to carolers, or make magical memories with loved ones, the Kris Kringle Market offers something for everyone, all against the backdrop of Shenandoah Valley charm.
