Margaret Lucy “Peg” Goodyear, 88, of Bentonville, Virginia, passed away on Friday, November 21, 2025, at Hidden Springs Senior Living.

A memorial service will be held on December 9, 2025, at 11 AM at Calvary Episcopal Church, 132 North Royal Avenue, Front Royal.  Following the service will be a time for fellowship in the parish hall.

Ms. Goodyear was born on May 14, 1937, in Jefferson County, Alabama, to the late Alfred Sr. and Wynelle Speegle Goodyear.  She was also preceded in death by her brother, Alfred Wyman Goodyear II.  She was a graduate of Smith College in Northampton, Massachusetts.  Following college, Peg worked in the medical field, serving as Head of Nuclear Medicine at Washington Hospital Center and later as a sales representative for a manufacturer of Nuclear Medical Equipment.  Following retirement, she became an Animal Welfare Officer in Virginia and rescued numerous animals from difficult conditions.  While serving as President of the Humane Society, Peg was instrumental in the construction of the new Warren County Humane Society.  She volunteered at St. Luke’s Community Clinic and the Warren Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, and devoted many years to the Emergency Department.  Peg was deeply religious, spending many years as a member of Calvary Episcopal Church in Front Royal and later joining Christ Episcopal Church in Luray, Virginia.  Peg dedicated her life to supporting others and contributing positively to their lives through her commitment and diligent efforts.  Her many friends will miss her deeply.

Survivors include her nephew, Scott Goodyear; niece, Sandy Falato; lifelong friend, Joan Whitley; and numerous other close friends who became like family.

We want to thank the excellent staff at Hidden Springs Senior Living for taking such wonderful care of Peg in the final year of her life.  I truly appreciate your support and kindness.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Warren County Humane Society or a charity of one’s choice.
