Phoenix Project’s 9th Annual Wine Pull Fundraiser Returns to Raise Awareness for Domestic Violence

The Phoenix Project, a local nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting survivors of domestic and sexual violence, is gearing up for its 9th Annual Wine Pull fundraiser on October 10th. Held at Regions 117 at Lake Frederick, this popular event offers a unique and fun way to raise funds and awareness during Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

“It’s hard to believe it’s our ninth year already,” said Susan Hrbek, a board member and the creator of the wine pull. “This is our biggest fundraiser of the year, and the community looks forward to it. It’s a great way to support survivors while having a good time.”

What Is the Wine Pull?

The Wine Pull is a game of chance, where participants purchase tickets for $70 and get the opportunity to pull a cork from a bucket. Each cork corresponds to a bottle of wine or beer, ranging from $5 to $100. Guests will enjoy delicious food, entertainment by local musician Ryan Jewell, and a silent auction that allows them to bid on unique items throughout the evening.

Avery Harper, the newly appointed Executive Director of the Phoenix Project, expressed excitement about the event. “We have 125 bottles available this year, and every cork pulled supports survivors of intimate partner violence in Front Royal and Warren County. It’s a fantastic way to get the community involved.”

How the Funds Help

All proceeds from the Wine Pull go directly to supporting the Phoenix Project’s vital services, including crisis counseling, court advocacy, emergency shelter, and financial assistance for survivors. “These funds are essential for us to continue offering free and confidential services to anyone who needs them,” Harper explained. “We are the community’s resource for anyone experiencing domestic or sexual violence.”

In addition to the Wine Pull, the event will feature a moving testimonial from a Phoenix Project client who shares how the organization has impacted their life. “Hearing these stories brings home why we do what we do,” said Hrbek. It’s powerful to see how our work helps real people right here in our community.”

Community Support and Sponsorships

The success of the Wine Pull relies on the generous support of local sponsors. This year, sponsorship opportunities range from the $300 Silver Level to the $3,500 Cycle Breaker Level, with multiple slots available at each level. “We are grateful for the support we receive from our community,” Harper noted. “It’s heartening to see how much people care and are willing to contribute to this important cause.”

New Initiatives: Healing Art Support Group

Alongside the Wine Pull, the Phoenix Project is launching a new program to support survivors further. Starting in October, a free Healing Art Support Group will be available to local survivors. The group will meet at the Phoenix Project office on Thursdays from 5:30 to 7 p.m. for six weeks, providing a creative outlet for healing through art. Childcare will be provided, and no prior art experience is required.

“This is a new initiative for us,” Harper explained. “Art can be a powerful tool for expressing and processing trauma. It offers a different way for people to heal, especially for those struggling to articulate their experiences verbally.”

About the Phoenix Project

The Phoenix Project offers a comprehensive range of services for survivors of domestic and sexual violence. This includes crisis intervention, supportive counseling, court advocacy, financial assistance, and partnerships with local hotels to provide emergency shelter. All services are free and confidential, available to anyone in need, regardless of gender.

“We are here for anyone who needs us,” Harper emphasized. “Our website also offers a quick exit button to erase browsing history, ensuring safety for those in a precarious situation.”

Join the Wine Pull

Tickets for the Wine Pull fundraiser are available through any Phoenix Project board member or online on their website. The event promises an enjoyable evening filled with great wine, food, music, and community spirit, all for a worthy cause.

“Come join us for a night of fun and support a critical cause in our community,” said Herbeck. “You might even walk away with a great bottle of wine or beer!”
