Samuels Library Kicks Off 2025 with Exciting Winter Programs for All Ages

Published

on

As January 2025 unfolds, the local library is buzzing with activities for the community. From the Winter Reading Challenge to hands-on workshops and special events, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.

Winter Reading Challenge

The Winter Reading Challenge, themed Blizzard of Books, begins January 4. This program encourages children, teens, and adults to dive into the joys of reading with age-specific goals:

  • Ages 0-6: Listen to five books per week to earn prizes.
  • Ages 6-11: Read one book per week for rewards.
  • Teens: Log 30 minutes of reading weekly to participate in the fun.

Adults can join the challenge by logging reading hours for raffle entries to win themed prize baskets. One basket, called Sugar and Spice, includes cozy blankets, locally made pottery, a book-themed planner, and more.

Exciting Programs and Events

The library calendar is packed with diverse programs for January:

  • Storytime and Science for Kids: Weekly sessions continue alongside special events like Gnomes of Hibberton and Tiger at Aspendale on January 11. Kids can dress as gnomes, participate in scavenger hunts, and enjoy crafting activities.
  • Teens Take on Ice Chess: A unique twist on chess with ice pieces, where quick thinking is key to finishing the game before the pieces melt.
  • Studio 330 Workshops: Open walk-in hours every Thursday from 12 to 4 p.m. provide access to creative projects. January highlights include a Create Your Own Reading Journal workshop on January 11 and an introduction to quilting for table runners.

Community Favorites Return

Popular programs such as What the Tech? which offers tech help for gadgets and apps, and ongoing book clubs also return this month. For January, Bad Romance explores the theme of Fresh Start, and Books and Beyond invites members to share their favorites.

The Jigsaw Puzzle Contest on January 25 promises friendly competition with added challenges like completing puzzles while wearing oven mitts.

Why Visit the Library?

The library remains a welcoming hub for neighbors to gather, learn, and connect. From craft tables to tech support and cozy reading corners, there’s no better place to warm up this winter.

Stay tuned for February’s romance-themed events and more surprises!
