VDOT: Warren County Traffic Alert for April 7 – 11, 2025

The following is a list of highway work that may affect traffic in Warren County during the coming weeks. Scheduled work is subject to change due to inclement weather and material supplies. Motorists are advised to watch for slow-moving tractors during mowing operations. When traveling through a work zone, be alert to periodic changes in traffic patterns and lane closures.

INTERSTATE 66
Mile marker 1 to 0, westbound – Shoulder closures for sign installations, 6 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. through April 18.

INTERSTATE 81
Mile marker 300 to 299, northbound and southbound – Overnight alternating lane closures for pavement and guardrail work, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. through night of April 24. Daytime shoulder closures for sign installations, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. through April 18. Traffic restrictions are related to I-81 widening project.

PRIMARY ROADS
*NEW* Route 55 (West Strasburg Road, Front Royal) – Eastbound and westbound overnight right lane closures and flagger traffic control as needed near Route 340/522 (North Shenandoah Avenue) intersection for signal inspections, 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. Tuesday night.

*NEW* Route 340 (Stonewall Jackson Highway) – Southbound right shoulder closures between Front Royal town limits and Skyline Drive entrance for sign work, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

*NEW* Route 340/522 (Winchester Road) – Northbound and southbound overnight right lane closures and flagger traffic control as needed between Route 637 (Riverton Road/Guard Hill Road) and and FR-Route 730 (Country Club Road) for signal inspections 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Monday night.

*NEW* Route 522 (North Shenandoah Avenue) – Northbound and southbound overnight right lane closures between Front Royal town limits and Route 55 (West Strasburg Road) intersection for signal inspections, 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. Tuesday night.

SECONDARY ROADS
Route 658 (Rockland Road) – Closed to through traffic between Route 340/522 (Winchester Road) and Route 705 (Fishnet Boulevard) for construction of bridge over Norfolk Southern Railway. Follow posted detour. Estimated completion December 2025.

Vegetation management may take place district-wide on various routes. VDOT reminds motorists to use extreme caution when traveling through work zones.
