VDOT: Warren County Traffic Alert for March 30 – April 3, 2026

The following is a list of highway work that may affect traffic in Warren County in the coming weeks. Scheduled work is subject to change due to inclement weather and material supply issues. Motorists are advised to watch for slow-moving tractors during mowing operations. When traveling through a work zone, be alert to periodic traffic pattern changes and lane closures.

INTERSTATE 66  

Mile marker 2 to 0, westbound – Shoulder closures for road work related to I-81 southbound widening, 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. through May 1.

*NEW* Mile marker 5 to 6, eastbound – Right shoulder closures for sign work, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to Friday.


INTERSTATE 81  

Mile marker 299 to 300, northbound and southbound – Overnight single lane closures northbound from 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. through the night of April 30. Single shoulder closures 24/7. Work zone speed limit is 60 miles per hour. Traffic restrictions are related to the I-81 southbound widening project.


PRIMARY ROADS

*NEW* Route 11 (Old Valley Pike) – Single lane closures near the Shenandoah County line for inspection of the Cedar Creek bridge, 9 a.m. to 12 noon, Wednesday.

*NEW* Route 55 (John Marshall Highway) – Westbound right shoulder closures between Route 647 (Dismal Hollow Road) and Route 79 (Apple Mountain Road) for soil and rock testing, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. March 30 – April 10.

Route 55 (Strasburg Road) – Temporary signal controlling traffic 24/7 at the Shenandoah County line for maintenance to the bridge over the North Fork Shenandoah River, through April 3.

*NEW* Route 79 (Apple Mountain Road) – Southbound right shoulder closures near the Route 55 (John Marshall Highway) intersection for soil and rock testing, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., March 30 – April 10.

*UPDATE* Route 522/340 (Winchester Road) – Southbound overnight right lane closures between Route 655 (Crooked Run Boulevard) and the I-66 interchange ramp for the construction of a turn lane extension, 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Monday through Thursday nights.


SECONDARY ROADS

*NEW* Route 647 (Dismal Hollow Road) – Shoulder closures between Route 55 (John Marshall Highway) and FR-Route 285 (Gap Road) for drilling under the road, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. March 30 – April 10.

Vegetation management may occur district-wide across various routes. VDOT reminds motorists to use extreme caution when traveling through work zones.
