Sixth District Perspectives with Congressman Ben Cline – February 4, 2025

President Trump is delivering on his promises to restore law and order, protect American families, and put our Nation back on the right track. In his first days back in office, he signed the Laken Riley Act into law, ensuring that criminal illegal immigrants are removed from our streets and held accountable for their crimes. He also honored our men and women in uniform by signing an executive order reinstating service members who were wrongfully discharged over the COVID-19 vaccine mandate. These heroes deserve better, and President Trump is making it right. Meanwhile, his Administration has already taken bold action to restore security, unleash American energy, and protect our freedoms, signing over 300 executive orders that put Americans first. As we move forward, I remain committed to fighting for the values we share, securing our Nation, and ensuring that Washington works for we the people not the bureaucrats.

Prayers for Those Affected by the Reagan National Airport Tragedy
My heartfelt prayers go out to the families and loved ones impacted by the tragic plane crash near Reagan National Airport last week. In times of loss, our communities come together, and I stand with those grieving as they navigate this painful moment.

I am also grateful for the courage and dedication of our first responders, who worked tirelessly in the rescue and recovery efforts. Their bravery reminds us of the strength and resilience that define our Nation.

Restoring Law and Order with the Laken Riley Act
Last week, President Trump signed into law one of the most important immigration enforcement measures in American history, the Laken Riley Act. Named in honor of Laken Riley, a 22-year-old nursing student who was brutally murdered by an illegal immigrant, this law ensures that criminals like her killer are swiftly removed from our country before they can harm innocent Americans.

The Laken Riley Act:
✅ Requires ICE to arrest and detain illegal immigrants who commit theft or other serious crimes.
✅ Mandates their detention until deportation, preventing them from reoffending.
✅ Allows states to sue federal officials who refuse to enforce our immigration laws.

This common-sense legislation puts American safety first, and I’m proud to support President Trump’s continued efforts to end Biden’s open-border disaster and secure our Nation.

Restoring American Leadership in Washington
In just two weeks, the Trump-Vance Administration has already:
✅ Reduced illegal border crossings by 93% by reinstating Trump-era enforcement policies.
✅ Struck a deal with Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum to deploy 10,000 troops to the border to stop illegal crossings and drug trafficking.
✅ Intercepted 21,000 pounds of fentanyl, stopping this deadly poison from reaching American streets.
✅ Cut unnecessary regulations to unleash American energy, lowering costs for families.
✅ Ended radical DEI and CRT programs in public schools, ensuring education, not indoctrination.

The American people sent a clear message in November: We want secure borders, economic strength, and government accountability. President Trump is following through on those promises, and House Republicans are ready to work alongside him to get America back on track.

Honoring Holocaust Remembrance Day
Last week, we paused to remember the millions of Jewish lives lost during the Holocaust and reaffirmed our commitment to fighting antisemitism in all its forms. On Holocaust Remembrance Day, we reflect on the lessons of history and renew our promise to never allow such evil to rise again.

Fighting for School Choice and Parental Rights
Parents (not the government) should decide what’s best for their children. That’s why I will continue fighting for school choice policies that empower families and ensure every child has access to a high-quality education that fits their needs.

During National School Choice Week, we reaffirmed our commitment to:

✅ Expanding charter schools and private school options.
✅ Opposing government overreach in education.
✅ Ensuring parents, not bureaucrats, make decisions about their child’s learning.

Education is about preparing our children for the future not pushing a political agenda. I will continue standing with parents to protect their rights and restore excellence in our schools.

Engaging with Students at Alleghany High School

Last week, I had the honor of visiting Alleghany High School in Covington. I always appreciate the chance to hear from young Virginians who are engaged in the issues that shape our country’s future.
Their passion for public service, policy, and leadership is inspiring, and I look forward to seeing how this next generation will shape America.
