Carol Jean Kelley Bentley (1928 – 2025)
Carol Jean Kelley Bentley died in her 97th year on February 12, 2025, at Hidden Springs Senior Living, under the care of Blue Ridge Hospice. She previously resided in Ednor, Maryland for 55 years.
She was born June 27, 1928 in Charlotte, Mecklenburg, NC, to Seba Wingo and Thelma Estelle (Parker) Kelley.
She was a 1949 graduate of Furman University. She met her husband-to-be, Richard A Bentley, while they were both working for the Armed Forces Security Agency, now the NSA, in Arlington, VA. They were married Dec 8, 1951, in Falls Church, VA. He died in 2021.
Carol was a homemaker, gardener, genealogist, math tutor for Montgomery County Schools, and a long-time member of the League of Women Voters in Montgomery Co, MD. She and Richard loved to travel, on their own and with Roads Scholars. They lived in Bude, England for 3 years.
Survivors include her son, W Michael (Laura) of Front Royal, VA; daughter, Ellen M, of Prosser, WA; grandchildren: Erica, of Chicago, IL, and Andrew (Sasha), of Richmond, VA; a sister, Barbara A Smith, and a niece, Kelley Anderson, both of Leland, NC.
The family is grateful for the care she received, both at Hidden Springs and from Blue Ridge Hospice.
No funeral is planned.
Interment will occur at the family’s convenience at Union Cemetery in Burtonsville, MD.
