Supervisors, Hit Pause: Find a Solution, Not a Standoff
According to the posted agenda for the upcoming Board of Supervisors Meeting this Tuesday, March 4, 2025, the onerous motions made by the ill-conceived and unnecessary WCLB are being presented to the BoS for a vote.
I implore each of you – PLEASE PAUSE AND DELAY ANY VOTE BEFORE CONSIDERING THESE MOTIONS UNTIL THERE CAN BE FURTHER DISCUSSIONS BETWEEN THE BoS AND THE LIBRARY STAFF AND TRUSTEES.
Since January 2024, supervisors have declined to accept multiple invitations from the library staff and Trustees to participate in direct working meetings. Four supervisors did attend to listen and observe at one or more of the “Town Hall” meetings held recently at the library. While appreciated, this is far from an in-depth, and potentially productive working meeting between the BoS and the library staff and Trustees.
There should be some way to get through this impasse, which now unnecessarily has reached the “nuclear confrontation” level. It could prove very helpful to use a professional mediator, to facilitate open, meaningful, and hopefully productive discussions between BoS Members with the library staff and Trustees. Sadly, the way things are going now, it seems as if grossly expensive legal actions may be the only options. This benefits no one other than the attorneys.
PLEASE PRESS THE “PAUSE BUTTON”! As Supervisors sworn to serve our entire community, please find a way to work through this without destroying our library and wasting more taxpayer money.
