Virginia State Police are continuing to investigate a deadly multi-vehicle crash that killed five people and injured dozens on Interstate 95 southbound in Stafford County.

The crash occurred around 2:35 a.m. Friday, May 29, 2026, near the 146-mile marker. Investigators are asking anyone who witnessed the crash or has video of the incident or its aftermath to contact Virginia State Police Division 2 Dispatch at 804-750-8778 or email questions@vsp.virginia.gov.

According to the preliminary investigation, traffic was slowing in the southbound lanes for an upcoming work zone when a bus operated by E&P Travel failed to slow and struck a Chevrolet Suburban. The bus was traveling from New York City to Charlotte, North Carolina.

Police said the impact forced the Suburban into an Acura SUV and other vehicles. The bus also struck additional vehicles. In all, seven vehicles were involved, including the bus.

Five people died. Four of the victims were in the Acura, which caught fire after the collisions. They were a 45-year-old man, a 44-year-old woman, a 13-year-old girl, and a 7-year-old boy, all from Greenfield, Massachusetts.

The fifth victim, Priscilla R. Mafalda, 25, of Worcester, Massachusetts, was in the Suburban, struck by the bus.

Approximately 44 patients were taken to area hospitals.
