Front Royal Police to residents: Please don’t park your trailer on the street

Large trucks such as this one, per Town of Front Royal code, may not be parked on residential streets. After a recent uptick in violations, officials say they will begin enforcing the ordinance Dec. 2, 2016.

If you are one of a growing number of Front Royal citizens who has been parking your tractor trailer or commercial truck on a residential street within the Town, the Front Royal Police Department has a message for you:  stop it!

In a written statement from the department, Sgt. Crystal Cline said the department had received several complaints in relation to trailers parked on public streets in residential areas.

Sgt. Cline stated that parking on the streets is a violation of Town of Front Royal Code 158-19.1m which states in part:

“It shall be unlawful to park trucks, tractor trucks, trailers or semitrailers upon the public streets and alleys of the Town of Front Royal located in any residential zoning district”.

In a telephone interview Sgt. Cline said that while the department understands that many of these same trailers are for work purposes and the parking is a convenience to the owner, the situation has become a problem. She said, “It’s been going on for years and it is not fair to the residents and the neighborhoods. We’re simply going to uphold the law after quite a few complaints.”

The media release stated that the department hopes to make residents aware of the parking prohibition and will allow until December 1, 2016 for any potential violations to be corrected, which should give owners time to make arrangements for the legal storage and parking of their trailers.

Beginning December 2, 2016, officers will strictly enforce the parking ordinance, Cline said. She indicated that violators will be issued a summons and repeat offenders will be handled on a case-by-case basis.

Everyone’s cooperation in this matter will be greatly appreciated, Sgt. Cline said.
