In a remarkable achievement for community college education, Laurel Ridge Community College has been honored with the prestigious School of Excellence distinction in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) by the International Technology and Engineering Educators Association (ITEEA). This accolade places Laurel Ridge in an elite group, distinguishing it as the only community college among just six institutions worldwide to receive this honor.

The award, which acknowledges the superior quality of STEM education at Laurel Ridge, will be officially presented at the ITEEA’s annual conference in Memphis, Tennessee, from March 6-9. The college will receive a banner and a certificate, symbolizing their exceptional achievements in STEM education.

ITEEA’s STEM School of Excellence Award is highly regarded in the academic world. It celebrates outstanding STEM programs at both K-12 and post-secondary levels globally. Recipients of this award are recognized for their robust and integrative STEM programs, which not only provide enriching educational experiences but also serve as models for effective practices and instructional strategies. Laurel Ridge’s recognition is a testament to its role as a leader and proponent of advanced STEM education.

Dr. Craig Santicola, the dean of the School of Professional Programs at Laurel Ridge, attributes this success to the tireless efforts of both faculty and administrators. He highlights the significant contributions of faculty members like Melissa Stange, Beth Dodson, Sam Dillender, and Liz Palffy, as well as administrators like Dean Ia Gomez. Their dedication has been instrumental in providing high-quality STEM education and inspiring students to pursue careers in various STEM fields.

Laurel Ridge offers a wide range of STEM programs, including engineering, data analytics, and innovative new offerings in robotics and artificial intelligence. These programs are designed to equip students with a solid foundation and the critical thinking and problem-solving skills essential for thriving in future job markets.
