Skyline Hawks Baseball Swings for Success with Annual Golf Tournament Fundraiser

The Skyline Hawks Baseball program is teeing up for one of its most anticipated events of the year: the Annual Golf Tournament Fundraiser, on Saturday, September 20, 2025, at the Shenandoah Valley Golf Club. This fun-filled day of golf, camaraderie, and community spirit will directly support Skyline’s JV and Varsity baseball players, helping them access the resources they need for a winning season on and off the field.

“This event has become one of our biggest opportunities to bring the community together while supporting our student-athletes,” says Clare Schmitt, team mom for Skyline Baseball. “Every dollar raised goes right back into the program, covering the costs of equipment, uniforms, field maintenance, and training tools that help these kids excel.”

Registration is $100 per player when registering as a team of 4 and includes a full round of golf, lunch, and unlimited drink tickets. Participants will enjoy friendly competition, great food, and a chance to connect with friends and neighbors who share a passion for supporting local youth sports.

Why Fundraising Matters
Running a competitive baseball program requires more than just talent; it also requires resources. Head Coach Tyler Settle knows firsthand the impact community support can make.  “This past year, we invested in equipment upgrades, speed and agility training from FASST, and we are about to add 25 tons of infield mix and conditioner to the field as well as rebuild all our pitching mounds.” Settle explains. “Between gear replacement, field upkeep, and day-to-day needs, fundraisers like this keep our program strong and give our players the tools to succeed.”

The Heart Behind the Hawks

One of the driving forces behind the tournament’s success is longtime supporter Mike “Cub” Moore. Known for his big personality and even bigger heart, Moore doesn’t have a child on the team but is deeply invested in the players’ success.

“These boys are like family to me,” says Moore. “They work hard, they respect the game, and they represent our community so well. Helping them get the resources they need is the least I can do.”

Schmitt adds, “Cub is one of those rare people who shows up purely out of love for the kids. He constantly encourages the boys, rallies the community, and ensures participation remains high. We’re so lucky to have him as part of our baseball family.”

A True Community Effort
Local businesses and families have already stepped up to sponsor the event, reflecting the strong bond between the Hawks and the Front Royal community. Sponsors will be recognized on the course, and each will receive a handwritten thank-you note from the players as a show of appreciation.

Schmitt credits the parents and volunteers for making the tournament possible. “From organizing prizes to securing sponsors, our baseball family goes above and beyond. It’s inspiring to see everyone rally for the kids.” She gives special recognition to Tina Tolliver, the team’s photographer and “signage queen,” whose creative touch captures memories and brings the event to life; Emily Boyd, the team’s social media manager, who keeps the community connected and engaged all season long; and Jennifer Grindle, the dedicated JV Team Mom, whose support helps keep the entire program running smoothly from top to bottom.
