Are the Warren County Board of Supervisors Demonstrating Good Governance?

Published

on

Good Governance is the process by which power is exercised in managing public and other resources for the development of a state, organization, or business, characterized by transparency, accountability, fairness, inclusiveness, and adherence to the rule of law.

While the BOS stresses Good Governance, transparency, and accountability, they totally disregard the requirement for fairness and inclusiveness.

FAIRNESS: Good governance mediates different interests to reach a broad consensus on what is best for the whole community and on policies to achieve it.

INCLUSIVENESS: Ensuring that all people have opportunities to improve or maintain their well-being.

Good governance is not just an academic exercise or dissertation paper. The purpose of Good Governance is to make life better for the citizens of Warren County. So, how will the BOS version of Good Governance make Samuels Library better?

Will it save money? Nope — the BOS awarded a private contract for the exact same cost.

Will it improve quality? Nope — Samuel’s Library is recognized as the best library in Virginia.

Will it make Warren County a better place to live and work? Nope – losing the Samuels Library public/private partnership would significantly reduce the resources available for our library.

The BOS needs to start demonstrating Good Governance.
