Friday – not Saturday – marks Veterans Day in Front Royal & Warren County
Veterans Day wavers locally and elsewhere in the United States this year from the “11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month” – to the 11th hour of the 10th day of 11th month.
American Legion Post 53 will hold its annual Veterans Day ceremony Friday, November 10, starting at 11 a.m. in front of the Warren County Courthouse in Front Royal. An open house at the Legion Post, 22 West Eighth Street, will follow from noon to 3 p.m.
To mark this year’s Veterans Day, we quote from the Rotary Club of Front Royal’s “The Skyliner” newsletter a Veterans Day message that begins by “thanking veterans for their service.”
It continues: “American veterans may hear these words … as tributes for former service members in honor of Veterans Day.
“While those who died are also remembered, Veterans Day is the day set aside to thank and honor ALL those who served honorably in the military – in war or peacetime.
“The (federal) holiday is largely intended to thank LIVING veterans for their service, to acknowledge that their contributions to our national security are appreciated, and to underscore the fact that all those who served – not only those who died – have sacrificed and done their duty.”
We note that Memorial Day, the last Monday in May, is dedicated specifically to those who died in all American wars
The Royal Examiner joins in thanking ALL for their service to their country.
