Mindful Monday: Glitter – A tool to help us be still!
In our daily lives, we have very full schedules. We have projects to complete, appointments to make, academic tests to take, families to take care of, lawns to tend to, trips to schedule, the list goes on and on. These busy tasks are for adults AND children. We can become tense and stressed with so much on our plate. This tension can cause us not to think clearly or handle situations to the best of our ability. How can we “get a grip” and settle down?
One way is to BE STILL and DO NOTHING. Can you imagine? Do nothing. You might think this is an impossible concept, especially if you are a “doer” or driven to be very productive. Being still might feel like a waste of time. On the contrary! It can be one of the most productive things you do all day.
Practicing stillness is a discipline. It takes practice. I am sure many of us can come up with a list of reasons why being still and calming our minds would be helpful.
- Being still can help us clear our thoughts leading to better decision making skills.
- Being still can help us settle down emotions that have become uncontrollable.
- Being still can help us create a better connection to our true self.
- Being still can help us recognize all we have to be grateful for.

“We need to find God, and He cannot be found in noise and restlessness. God is the friend of silence. See how nature—trees, flowers, grass—grows in silence; see the stars, the moon and the sun, how they move in silence… We need silence to be able to touch souls.” – Mother Teresa
