VDOT: Warren County Traffic Alert for May 12 – 16, 2025

The following is a list of highway work that may affect traffic in Warren County during the coming weeks. Scheduled work is subject to change due to inclement weather and material supplies. Motorists are advised to watch for slow-moving tractors during mowing operations. When traveling through a work zone, be alert to periodic changes in traffic patterns and lane closures.

INTERSTATE 66

*NEW* Mile marker 0 to 15, eastbound and westbound – Overnight alternating lane closures for pavement marker installations, 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. through Wednesday night.

Mile marker 0 to 15, eastbound and westbound – Shoulder closures for utility work, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. through June 6.

*NEW* Exit 1A, westbound – Ramp to southbound I-81 closed during overnight hours for pavement marking work related to I-81 southbound widening, 11 p.m. to 7 a.m. from night of May 11 to May 22.

*UPDATE* Mile marker 2 to 0, westbound – Shoulder closures for road work related to I-81 southbound widening, 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. through July 4.


INTERSTATE 81

Mile marker 295 to 300, northbound and southbound – Shoulder closures for utility work, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. through June 6.

*UPDATE* Mile marker 299 to 300, northbound and southbound – Overnight alternating lane closures for pavement and guardrail work, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. through the night of July 3. Daytime shoulder closures for sign installations, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. through July 4. Traffic restrictions are related to I-81 widening project.


PRIMARY ROADS

*NEW* Route 55 (Strasburg Road), eastbound and westbound – Overnight alternating lane closures between the Shenandoah County Line and Route 614 (Hunt Road) for pavement marker installations, 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. through Tuesday night.

*NEW* Route 522 (Remount Road), northbound and southbound – Overnight alternating lane closures between the Rappahannock County Line and Route 604 (Harmony Hollow Road) for pavement marker installations, 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. through Tuesday night.

*UPDATE* Route 522/340 (Winchester Road) – Northbound and southbound overnight mobile lane closures between Clarke County line and Front Royal town limits for pavement marking operations, 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. Sunday through Tuesday nights.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 611 (Long Meadow Road) – Closed to through traffic between Route 842 (Sulphur Spring Road) and Route 637 (North River Road) for replacement of the bridge over Molly Booth Run through May 29. Follow the posted detour.

Route 658 (Rockland Road) – Closed to through traffic between Route 340/522 (Winchester Road) and Route 705 (Fishnet Boulevard) for the construction of a bridge over Norfolk Southern Railway. Follow the posted detour. Estimated completion December 2025.

Vegetation management may take place district-wide on various routes. VDOT reminds motorists to use extreme caution when traveling through work zones.
