Who can practice acupuncture?
If you’re looking for an acupuncturist, it’s important find one that’s qualified to give you safe and effective treatment. To ensure that you get the best care possible, look for someone who’s allowed to practice acupuncture in your state.
Most states require practitioners to have a license in order to practice acupuncture. Look for an acupuncturist with National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM) certification. To qualify, the acupuncturist must first complete a three-year master’s degree program in acupuncture from an accredited school.
Some states also allow certain types of medical practitioners to offer acupuncture as a complementary service. These professionals can include medical doctors, chiropractors, naturopaths, nurses, osteopaths and physical therapists. Contact your state’s acupuncture college to find out who’s eligible to provide treatments in your area.
Discover everything that acupuncture can do for you by scheduling an appointment with a qualified practitioner.
