A Night of Love and Community Support: Reaching Out Now’s Valentine’s Dinner

Published

This Valentine’s Day, the Warren County community is invited to a special dinner hosted by Reaching Out Now in collaboration with the Blue Ridge Technical Center’s culinary program. The event, set to take place at Skyline Middle School, promises an evening of delightful dishes, community spirit, and the warmth of shared experiences. Marlena Connor, representing Reaching Out Now, and Chef Devon Smith from the Blue Ridge Technical Center share their insights into the impact of this event and the organization’s broader mission.

Reaching Out Now, known for its dedication to empowering and supporting youth and families in the community, sees this dinner as an extension of its mission. “Our goal is to bring the community together, to provide support and encouragement to our young people, and to celebrate the strength and love within our community,” Connor explains. The Valentine’s Day dinner serves as a beacon of this mission, offering a space for families to gather, enjoy a beautiful meal, and experience the nurturing power of community.

Smith, alongside his culinary students, plans to serve a sumptuous three-course meal that includes a fresh garden salad, a choice between seared lemon pepper scampi chicken or sirloin beef tips with rosemary au jus, and a variety of desserts, including tiramisu and cheesecake. The dinner, meticulously prepared by Chef Devin Smith and his culinary students, is not just about the food. It’s about the stories, the lessons, and the moments of connection that food can foster. “These events are pivotal in teaching our students more than just culinary skills. They learn about service, teamwork, and the joy of giving back to their community,” Connor adds. This hands-on experience provides invaluable life lessons that extend far beyond the kitchen.

This event not only showcases the talents of young aspiring chefs but also reflects the broader goals of Reaching Out Now and the Blue Ridge Technical Center: to provide life skills, mentorship, and opportunities for personal growth. The collaboration extends beyond the kitchen, touching every aspect of the student’s education and offering them real-world experiences that build confidence and leadership skills.

Reaching Out Now’s commitment to supporting the community shines through in initiatives like this dinner. With each event, the organization seeks to build bridges, offering programs that address educational support, mentorship, and leadership development. “We believe in the potential of every individual and strive to create opportunities that foster growth, resilience, and hope,” Connor states.

The Valentine’s Day dinner is open to all within the school community, emphasizing inclusivity and the spirit of giving. While there is no charge for the meal, donations are welcomed and greatly appreciated. These contributions go directly toward supporting Reaching Out Now’s ongoing efforts to make a positive impact in the lives of children and families.

As the community prepares to come together for this special evening, Connor reflects on the importance of such gatherings. “Events like these remind us of the power of community support, the joy of sharing a meal, and the difference we can make when we come together with open hearts.”

This Valentine’s Day, join Reaching Out Now and the culinary students of the Blue Ridge Technical Center for an evening that promises not just a feast for the stomach but a feast for the soul. It’s an opportunity to celebrate love, community, and the bright future we can build together.
