Italy’s Iconic 1000 Miglia Returns to Middleburg, Virginia

Published

on

Middleburg, Virginia, will once again welcome a piece of automotive history this October as the 1000 Miglia Warm Up USA rolls into town. From October 24 to 26, classic car enthusiasts can witness up to 40 stunning vehicles compete in a race that allows U.S. drivers to qualify for Italy’s prestigious Mille Miglia, dubbed “the world’s most beautiful road race.”

The 1000 Miglia, first run in 1927, is known for its scenic routes and challenging 1,000-mile course through Italy. This warm-up event in Middleburg serves as a qualifier for American drivers, with top finishers receiving invitations to participate in the renowned June race in Italy. For many, securing a spot in the Mille Miglia is a coveted prize, and the demand for entries far exceeds the available slots, making the Middleburg event a significant opportunity.

Two categories of cars will compete: the 1000 Miglia Era Class, which features cars built between 1927 and 1957, and the Post-1000 Miglia Era Class, which showcases sports and touring cars from 1958 onward. Among the notable vehicles participating in the event are the 1931 ALFA ROMEO 6C 1750 GS Spider Zagato and the 1950 Ferrari 166 Touring Coupe, both iconic examples of automotive design.

The scenic Virginia countryside will provide the backdrop for the three-day event, with cars starting and finishing their daily journeys in the heart of Middleburg. Each morning, participants will line up on N. Madison Street before embarking on their daily drives, offering spectators a chance to see these remarkable cars up close. On Saturday, the final day, the cars will return to Middleburg at 5:30 p.m. for a Finish Line Celebration at 10 W. Marshall Street.

The event celebrates automotive excellence and highlights Middleburg’s charm and history, making it an ideal location for such an international gathering. Since 2018, the 1000 Miglia Warm Up USA has found a home in Middleburg, attracting car lovers and curious onlookers alike. In addition to the race, the festivities will include a street festival on Friday, October 25, with food vendors, a display of participating cars, and a children’s “Mini Miglia” race, where kids under six can race scooters.

Several key partners, including the Italian Embassy in Washington, D.C., the Town of Middleburg, and sponsors like Chopard and Vredestein Tires, support this unique event. The combination of historic cars, Italian heritage, and Middleburg’s picturesque setting promises a memorable experience for attendees. For additional details, visit the town’s official event website or the 1000 Miglia Warm Up USA page.
