Jean Elizabeth Grubbs Fogle (1939 – 2026)
Jean Elizabeth Grubbs Fogle, 87, of Front Royal, VA, passed away Monday, September 28, 2026.
Jean was born June 17, 1939, to Hilton and Pauline M. Grubbs. Jean graduated from Warren County High School in June 1958. She was proud of winning an apple pie contest that year. Early on in her younger years, she loved baking and making homemade bread. She loved telling stories about her senior class going to New York City and about wearing a red sweater.
She loved sewing and making clothes. One year she made a lot of Barbie and Ken clothes for her kids for Christmas. In recent years, she couldn’t do any of the things she enjoyed, but she made the best of it. She loved playing Solitaire on her computer. She married the love of her life, William J. Fogle, on December 6th, 1958. She worked for many years making clothes for the Front Royal Garment Company, mainly attaching pockets on little girls’ tops. She also worked for a couple of convenience stores, the last one being Henry’s Grocery. She loved meeting and talking with the customers.
She was a member of the Rockland Community Church and then became a member of the Front Royal Church of the Brethren. She taught Sunday school for many years for young adults and held other duties during her time there. She believed in God and often told us she had said a prayer, asked God a question, or made a request.
Jean leaves behind her son (whom she was living with) and his wife, her daughter, Patricia Day, and her husband, Darryl. She also leaves behind her grandchildren: Amy Welsh (Jon), Leslie Fogle, Kimberley Day, Kelly Wissel (Michael), and Ashley Carter (Richard). She also leaves her great-grandchildren: David Baker, Andrew and Skyla Welsh, Keara and Airyanna Embrey, Karleigh and Mikey Wissel, and Caroline and Allison Carter. She is also survived by her great-great-grandchildren: Macie, Lillie and Andrew Baker. Also surviving Jean is her brother James B. Grubbs (Mary Ann) and numerous nieces and nephews, whom she loved dearly.
Jean is preceded in death by her husband, William; her oldest son, David Wayne Fogle; her parents, Hilton and Pauline Grubbs; her sisters, Lois Judy & husband Keith, Margret Hawkins and husband Orie, Eleanor Rhinehart & husband Harry, and Louise Tomera & husband Claude; and many other family members.
Jean will be dearly missed by all those she leaves behind, but we all know she is in a much better place. She no longer has to wear a brace on her leg, walk with a walker, fear falling and getting hurt, or try to heal from cancer. She has reunited with William, Wayne, and all her loved ones. May she rest in peace. Until we meet again.
A private graveside service will be held on Tuesday, October 6th, 2026, at 10 am at Panorama Memorial Gardens.
