Warren County Schools Update on Skyline High JV Football Investigation

Published

on

Warren County Public Schools (WCPS) has completed its investigation into allegations of hazing involving Skyline High School’s junior varsity football team. While the inquiry found no evidence of hazing, the district identified inappropriate behaviors that violated the student code of conduct. However, these actions did not meet the criteria for criminal prosecution.

The investigation focused on four key areas: whether hazing occurred, the adequacy of staff supervision, whether any Title IX complaints were filed, and what steps should be taken in response to any findings. The results confirmed that staff provided adequate supervision, no hazing incidents occurred, and no Title IX complaints were submitted.

Despite these findings, WCPS acknowledged the need for improvements. The district plans to:

  • Review and update the Athletic Handbook,
  • Provide new educational opportunities for students, coaches, and staff across all extracurricular activities,
  • Reassess processes and procedures in extracurricular programs to strengthen oversight and ensure a positive environment.

WCPS stands by its earlier decision to cancel the remainder of Skyline High School’s JV football season, citing student safety and well-being as the highest priorities. The cancellation allowed for a thorough investigation and demonstrated the district’s commitment to fostering a supportive, secure environment for all students.

Superintendent Dr. Chris Ballenger reaffirmed the district’s commitment to student safety, emphasizing the importance of maintaining a supportive and secure environment in all schools. “We are dedicated to continuous improvement to ensure that every student feels safe and supported,” he said. Dr. Ballenger also highlighted the availability of the WCPS Concern Reporting Form, which allows anyone to submit completely anonymous reports regarding any safety-related incidents.

The steps WCPS is taking aim to address current concerns and build a stronger foundation for the future of all extracurricular activities within the district.
