Yes, Your Phone is Listening: Apple Agrees to $95 Million Siri Settlement

Published

on

Apple has agreed to a $95 million settlement following a lawsuit alleging that its digital assistant, Siri, was listening to user conversations without their consent. While the settlement still needs a judge’s approval, the implications for iPhone users are significant.

The lawsuit claimed that Siri was listening even when users didn’t say “Hey Siri,” a revelation that may not surprise many who’ve experienced eerily relevant ads after casual conversations.

What’s in It for Users?

Apple iPhone users are eligible for compensation as part of the settlement. If approved, users could receive $20 per Siri-enabled device used between September 2014 and December 2024, with a maximum payout of $100 per user for up to five devices.

A Drop in the Bucket for Apple

While $95 million sounds like a lot, it’s a tiny fraction of Apple’s worth. Valued at over $3 trillion, the tech giant makes $95 million in about nine hours of business.

Broader Implications

This settlement is another reminder of growing concerns about digital privacy. As people rely more on devices like smartphones and smart speakers, questions about how companies use our data—and how much they’re listening—are more pressing than ever.

If you’re an iPhone user, keep an eye out for updates on how to claim your share of the settlement.
