Sharp Work by FRPD K-9 Unit Leads to Crack Cocaine Seizure
On the evening of April 11, 2025, officers with the Front Royal Police Department conducted a traffic stop near the intersection of North Shenandoah Avenue and West Strasburg Road. During the stop, our K-9 officer deployed a narcotics detection dog that alerted officers to the possible presence of narcotics in the vehicle.
Following a search, officers found approximately seven ounces of suspected crack cocaine, an ounce and half of suspected powdered cocaine, a large amount of cash, and other items typically linked to drug distribution.

As a result of the investigation, the driver of the vehicle, Rebecca Starr Melvin, 44, of Front Royal, VA, was arrested and charged with Possession of Controlled Substances in violation of Virginia State Code § 18.2-250. A passenger, Shawn Kendall Murray, 42, was arrested and charged with Possession with Intent to Distribute a Controlled Substance in violation of Virginia State Code § 18.2-248.
