VDOT: Warren County Traffic Alert for April 6 – 10, 2026
The following is a list of highway work that may affect traffic in Warren County in the coming weeks. Scheduled work is subject to change due to inclement weather and material supply issues. Motorists are advised to watch for slow-moving tractors during mowing operations. When traveling through a work zone, be alert to periodic traffic pattern changes and lane closures.
INTERSTATE 66
Mile marker 2 to 0, westbound – Shoulder closures for road work related to I-81 southbound widening, 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. through May 1.
INTERSTATE 81
Mile marker 299 to 300, northbound and southbound – Overnight single lane closures northbound from 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. through the night of April 30. Single shoulder closures 24/7. The work zone speed limit is 60 miles per hour. Traffic restrictions are related to the I-81 southbound widening project.
PRIMARY ROADS
*UPDATE* Route 55 (Front Royal Road) – Temporary signal controlling traffic 24/7 at the Shenandoah County line for maintenance to the bridge over the North Fork Shenandoah River, through May 1.
Route 55 (John Marshall Highway) – Westbound right shoulder closures between Route 647 (Dismal Hollow Road) and Route 79 (Apple Mountain Road) for soil and rock testing, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. through April 10.
*NEW* Route 79 (Apple Mountain Road) – Flagger traffic control for bridge inspection near I-66 interchange, 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. Wednesday night.
Route 79 (Apple Mountain Road) – Southbound right shoulder closures near the Route 55 (John Marshall Highway) intersection for soil and rock testing, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. through April 10.
SECONDARY ROADS
Route 647 (Dismal Hollow Road) – Shoulder closures between Route 55 (John Marshall Highway) and FR-Route 285 (Gap Road) for drilling under the road, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. through April 10.
Vegetation management may occur district-wide across various routes. VDOT reminds motorists to use extreme caution when traveling through work zones.
