Beloved teacher, author loses battle with cancer

A memorial service will be held Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. for Missi Magalis, who passed away Friday after a courageous battle with cancer.

Melissa (Missi) Magalis, 45, of Front Royal, Virginia passed away on Friday, November 16, 2018, in her home.  A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 20 at Riverton United Methodist Church in Front Royal.

The family will receive friends and family beginning at 1:00 p.m. prior to the service. Pastor Marc Roberson and The Right Reverend Dr. Vince McLaughlin will conduct the service.

Missi was born in Front Royal, VA on September 13, 1973, the daughter of Theodore Minnick and Donna Smith Sours. A teacher and writer, Missi contributed heavily to the Front Royal community through both education and imagination. She was an avid hiker and kayaker; she enjoyed all things out-of-doors.

Surviving with her parents are her husband, Kerry L. Magalis II; her three children, Brooke Magalis, Robin Magalis, and Kerry Lane Magalis III; her great uncle, Luther Smith; and her sister, Cheryl Smedley.
