Exciting Events at Samuels Public Library This September!

Front Royal’s Samuels Public Library is buzzing with fun and educational activities this month! With a wide range of events planned for children, adults, and families, there’s something for everyone. The library has everything whether you love stories, crafts, or exploring nature.

A Bear Hunt Adventure The excitement kicks off this Saturday with “Going on a Bear Hunt,” a fun event for kids aged five and up, in collaboration with the ARC of Warren County. Participants will enjoy making sensory spoons and listening to the beloved story of a bear hunt. And don’t forget, a guardian must accompany the children, so it’s a perfect time for family bonding.

Toddler Trails Returns Next Friday, the rescheduled “Toddler Trails” event will be held with Parks and Recreation after being postponed due to Hurricane Debbie. Families will meet at the SacoPlex to learn about bees, transforming what could have been a rainy day into an outdoor adventure filled with learning.

Crafting Fun for Adults Adults can also get in on the action with the new Embroidery Club. Starting this month, the club will meet every Thursday from 10 a.m. to noon. It’s an excellent opportunity for those interested in hand embroidery, cross-stitch, or needlework to bring their projects and meet with other crafters. This is a chance to revive what some might consider a “lost art” and enjoy the therapeutic benefits of crafting.

Monthly Book Clubs for Every Interest The library’s popular book clubs are continuing, with options for all kinds of readers. The “Bad Romance” book club meets this week and focuses on romance stories set in rural or farm settings. If that’s not your thing, there’s also “Books and Beyond,” which explores various genres. This month’s theme is cryptids, so expect lively discussions about Bigfoot, the Loch Ness Monster, and other mysterious creatures!

Photography Program at Shenandoah River State Park For nature enthusiasts, there’s a photography program at Shenandoah River State Park on September 14th at 9 a.m. Participants will learn about insects and butterflies while capturing stunning photos of these beautiful creatures in their natural habitat.

Samicom: A Local Comic-Con Experience One of the most anticipated events this month is Samicom, happening on September 21st. This Comic-Con-style event will have vendors, local businesses, organizations, and exciting presenters, including authors Ben Hatke and John Gallagher, known for the “Max Meow” series. There will be activities throughout the library, like scavenger hunts, and the Girl Scouts will be making owl pins. For those who enjoy live-action role play (LARPing), a LARPing group will also be present, providing a fun way to experience storytelling and character immersion.

Harry Potter-Themed Fun For all the Potterheads, the library is offering a Harry Potter-themed activity. Kids and adults alike can take a quick quiz to get sorted into one of the four Hogwarts houses. Participants will receive a certificate with their house assignment, adding a magical touch to the day.

Looking Ahead: October Events The library is already planning for October with a “Ghost Hunting” event for teens, aspiring artist activities, and a “Stuffy Sleepover,” where stuffed animals can enjoy their library adventure. The library also aligns its schedule with the local “Festival of Leaves” and the “Halloween Jubilee,” ensuring the community has a full calendar of events to look forward to.

A Place to Learn and Grow Samuels Public Library continues to be a hub of creativity and learning in the community. Whether you’re interested in reading, crafting, or participating in unique events like Samicon, the library has something to offer everyone. Remember, the library is not just about books; it’s about building a community and sparking a love for learning and fun.
